I had a similar problem with Reiser when I first used it on SuSE. I had a hardware
problem that was causing crashes and the crash recovery was a real problem.
Rather than ext3, I tried JFS and loved it. The only problem I've ever had is
that I've found no easy way to resize JFS partitions.
BTW IBM Developer Works did a comparison of the common filesystems a while back.
It clearly highlighted the performance differences depending upon the file mix.
