I'd go to Italy even with no broadband! I only spent two weeks there a
few years ago, but it was incredible...best food on earth, enough
renaissance art to sink a fleet of ships and beautiful countryside...
What Japan lacks in aesthetics it makes up for in cool gadgetry...and
recently it has become much more cosmopolitan...I even know a few places
that serve authentic Italian food, French food and real American
hamburgers (not McDonald's).  Of course, there's lots of nice Japanese
food, too...
