So its actually the daemon that sends the right signals and not rather
the kernel itself .. I see
Guess I'm gonna have to play around with acpid a bit then. Would you
actually mind sending me your acpid configuration as a sample e.g. point
to start from?

No, not the fan of course. It hasn't worked ever before and doesn't work
now.
