OK, I have a ThinkPad R40 2722-CDG. I hope I can help.

I can recommend the ndiswrapper project. I have used this in conjunction
with my R40 and the drivers from the Asus website (linked from the
webpage). http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/ It might be worth noting
that I am using Debian with a hand-rolled kernel. You may have a little
more trouble if you are using a Mandrake kernel.

It may be that Mandrake hasn't included the de-CSS libraries for legal
reasons. Now that CSS has been declared as no longer a trade secret,
this shouldn't be the case in future versions. If you have not played a
DVD under Windows, then the region firmware on your DVD drive will not
have been set. This can interfere with playback of some DVDs that will
not play on an RPC-II drive with no region set. You can probably find
some RPC-1 firmware for the drive at www.rpc1.org. This will enable you
to play DVDs from other regions under both Windows and Linux. (The
flasher utility is Windows only, usually.)
