APM gets disabled once there is a working ACPI subsystem compiled into
the kernel (You should see it in dmesg as well). Apart from that APM is
the only one out of those which seems to operate correctly
(Sleep/Hibernate etc.)

Same here. cpufreqd and APM. Its just a matter of configuration.
