[ltp] Hot docking and screen resize

Hi all -
Does anyone know how I can get my screen to resize properly from docking and
undocking to the port replicator?
Every time I undock my T30 I can use the KDE screen resize tool to go down
to 1024x768.  But when dock again and resize up to 1400x1050, my external
monitor shows I'm still at 1024x768 but with autoscroll on the new space.
The only way I can successfully get back to the higher res is if I restart
X.  Any ideas?  BTW I'm running RedHat9 with kernel 2.60.
