Hi there,
         Below is my XF86Config that will run an independent screen
on the external connector.

You invoke with:-

startX --  -layout Multihead

You will need to customise this for your setup (font paths etc)
and your screen resolutions.

Most all of the stuff you need is in the man pages for the Xserver and
the XF86Config file.
