[ltp] usb mice and X

I've configured X to accept a usb mouse alongside the ultranav pad/stick 
on my T41, but when using the USB mouse X will go to the screensaver 
after a few minutes as if it's not recognising the mouse events (clicks 
etc) as activity, even though it works fine. any idea if i can fix this?

my X config for the usb mouse:
