The original question was about the 600E, and it shares modem hardware 
with the 600 and the 770 series.  This is the Mwave 3780i DSP, and it is 
the only Mwave modem for which a Linux driver exists.  IBM made earlier 
modems that were also called Mwave, but no Linux drivers exist for 
them.  It sounds like that's what is in the 760ED.  From what I can tell 
IBM abandoned the Mwave modem after the 600E and the 770 series, because 
the 600X and newer Thinkpads have Lucent or other non-IBM modem hardware.
