Just one data point for those looking for a decent distro. Just tried the MEPIS
distro on the a22p (1600x1200) and it's one of the most elegant and useful yet.
Like Knoppix, it boots into a live system, but with the ability to install the
system onto the target machine. It does so with virtually no extra questions -
almost all config is done after the initial install, so you're not wading thru
screen after screen of config info.
Also, it has a minimal installation base (only 1 CD required), so you only
install what you want after the base, no massive installations of
what-the-^%$-does-that-do??!? sw cluttering your disk.
And it's based on Debian sid/unstable, which is what a lot of my
colleagues/co-workers want to be at, so it saves a dist-upgrade step.
That said, it installed on the laptop with few problems - no queries about the
display, mouse, sound, wireless lan, anything, but everything came up working
(including eth0 and wlan). The one thing that did not seem to work was sleep,
but I've never had that work out of the box yet.
All in all, a highly commendable distro.
