I've heard that in the US you can get IBM to post you the recovery CDs 
for free. When I tried the same deal with IBM in Australia (where I 
bought my T40) they wanted $AU82 to send the CDs out. No idea about Europe.

In the mean time I recommend partimage or mondo to make your own backups.
