[ltp] KDE crashes but not Gnome after suspend

I recently installed Mandrake 10.0 Community on my R40 (2722-3YU), and it seems to be working better out of the box (after lots of updated packages) than 9.2. However, I decided to once and for all solve my suspend/resume problems...
MDK10 comes with XFree86 3.2, KDE 3.2, and Gnome 2.4.2. I run APM with APCI disabled in the kernel.
When using Gnome, I can suspend (apm --suspend) and resume flawlessly everytime. However, when using KDE, I often experience KDE crashes (either KDE restarts or everything just locks up).
One diff I've noticed between KDE 3.2 and 3.1 (used in MDK9.2) is that now (with 3.2) I sometimes get a dialog box after resume saying that I am trying to start another session/instant of the graphical interface, "Do you want to Continue/Cancel".
I now reach out to LTP-community for some guidance... Has anyone experienced similar problems? Solution? How should I start troubleshooting the problem? What are the relevant log-files I should look at?
Also, what role does the Display Manager (KDM, XDM, etc.) play?
My APM/ACPI kernel settings are:
CONFIG_APM=y
# CONFIG_APM_IGNORE_USER_SUSPED is not set
# CONFIG_APM_DO_ENABLE is not set
# CONFIG_APM_CPU_IDLE is not set
# CONFIG_APM_DISPLAY_BLANK is not set
CONFIG_APM_RTC_IS_GMT=y
CONFIG_APM_ALLOW_INTS=y
# CONFIG_APM_REAL_MODE_POWER_OFF is not set
# CONFIG_ACPI is not set
CONFIG_ACPI_INITRD=y
Yes, I know that I could simply just use Gnome and skip KDE, but that goes against my ego... Besides, I kind of like KDE :)
Thanks,
T.
