I am running 2.6.4-rc1-mm2, at the moment I am at 600 MHz and 38 C (fan
turned off by the system), the hottest I've seen at 1700 Mhz was about
69 C.

When the system is idle but at 1700 MHz, the temperature is about 46 C.

Did you load all the acpi-modules?
