Exactly my problem / viewpoint. I am still running 2.4.25 and APM on
my T41, works like a charm. (This is actually a SuSE 8.1, with updated
kernel, ALSA, and X.)
The only thing: You mention that you have a power drain of 2% daily
when suspended to RAM (e.g., after closing the lid). For me, it's more
10 - 12% per day. I.e., suspend-to-RAM lasts for roughly 8-10 days.
Did you do anything special to get such a low drain rate?
To Crispin: Actually, I care more for my comfort and work efficiency
than for the lifetime of my battery. Closing the lid at one customer
in the morning, opening it at another customer the next afternoon --
voila, complete session is there, without any need to boot. If battery
lifespan reaches the end, I'll buy new ones. My Thinkpad is a work
device, I'm earning money with it... :-)
Now, the only thing that doesn't work is suspending while VMware is in
full screen mode. Screen and keyboard locks every time after resume.
Well, I'll have to live with that. ;-)
Cheers,
Joachim
