i recently bought a Thiinkpad T40 as my first laptop; and all in all im very
happy with it. i can do all my developing on it and i can even play ET for
the most part; however, one thing i am dissatisfied, is the battery life the
the T40 compared to windows. at full charge windows will give me nearly 5
good hours, however, linux, has a hard time giving me 3! ive done everything
i can think of; cpu is throttled to 600mhz, hard disk is on standby, cdrom
on standby, etc etc. the only thing really working is the fan (which never
seems to want to turn off) and the wifi card. but even in windows i have
the wifi card going so i know that cant be eating nearly 2 hours of battery.
a friend of mine has a T40, a slightly older model and he claims nearly 5
hours on linux. so i have no idea why im getting such poor results from
linux, i recently just sent the unit back due to overheating problem and
they replaced teh mobo and said battery needed replacing, so i got a brand
new one, and i got 30 mins more (to make the 3hours max). I just ordered a
9cell battery and an ultrabay battery to help but i would really like to be
able to get something near the windows battery life. any suggestions? Thank
you.
