Hi René --

Thanks for the reply.  It was a good suggestion but it did not seem to help.

It did work once right after I rebooted, but not since.  The Linux USB 
faq says it can be an IRQ routing problem, but they suggest disabling 
ACPI which I'm not using.

The BIOS does have some IRQ options, but I have them all set to "auto 
detect".  Maybe I should try playing with those?
