It seems to me I recently saw this message after building a custom
kernel for 2.6.something on my Athlon workstation (not my thinkpad)
running Fedora Core 2. I edited the grub.conf file and replaced the
entry with root=label*something with an explicit root=/dev/hda5 and then
booting proceeded normally. I didn't attempt to troubleshoot further.
