I call 'em Beast Buy because I don't like them very much. Their customer
(dis)service policies are pretty damn atrocious. Details about them are
available if you google a little. I call Fry's Electronics "Fried" because I
don't like them very much either, and since I actually *worked for them* for
a few months and have the scars to prove it I think I'm entitled. And
CompUSA? Think of a mild scatological slang term starting with a C and ending
with p, then you know what term I use to refer to them. ^_^
I think that NewEgg.Com is probably the only electronics retailer I don't have
a pejorative name for...them and ComputerGeeks.Com. And SmallDog.Com, which
is great for Mac stuff. Oh, and RogersSystems.com, the best damn place for
cables on the planet. Everyone else I've got problems with.
The thing with this particular item, however, is that it's an actual fix for
the ongoing 600e battery problem that apparently IBM couldn't fix back in the
day, and they don't care to fix now that it's an old model. That's why the
mention on the list. And it's the first time this fix has become
economically feasible, too. Those $300-$400 Electrovaya thingies were just
too damn expensive. $100 after rebate...that's not an unheard of price for an
actual 600e battery. And most of those new ones that you can trust (unlike
the Chinese no-name batteries that I just can't bring myself to trust) cost
more than that, anyway.
Take care,
Michelle
