It has been fixed in Unstable now (kernel-image-2.6.8-4).
There was a patch reversed in the kernel source related to APIC (NOT
ACPI).
Suspend/resume is back again :-)
Thanks to all. I guess it's helped reinforce that Debian to mess around
with the kernel source.
