Find out.  "lspci -vv | grep -i -A6 serial" will show you a great deal 
of information about the LoseModem installed on your machine.  It is 
highly probably that the A22e uses a Lucent LoseModem, most of which 
work with an evil binary-only kernel module that you can download from 
various places.  http://linmodems.org/ has a tarball available, or you 
can just do "emerge ltmodem" on Gentoo.  If you're not sure whether you 
have a Lucent or not, post the output of that lspci command and someone 
will tell you exactly what to do.
