[ltp] tuning with hdparm

I saw this posting about tuning the hard disk using hdparm:

On my R40 with a 40GB drive I get a buffered disk read of about 20 MB/sec. Doing the poster's tuning tips I can increase the number with about 2 MB/sec.

Are there special concerns for a laptop when using hdparm? Better tuning parameter? What are the numbers other listmembers are seeing?
