Ah, but the VMware environment is not a Thinkpad, it is some generic
environment with emulated devices.  It has it's own BIOS that is
different from the BIOS in the physical/real environment.  If the OEM
CD is looking for Thinkpad specific hardware, it probably won't find
it.
