To resolve this problem with kernel 2.6.10 and slmodem-2.9.10
follow these steps:

Just put slmodem-2.9.10-abby.diff inside slmodem-2.9.10 and patch it:
# patch -p1 < slmodem-2.9.10-abby.diff
Then make and all should be fine when loading the module.
I really am puzzled by GPL modules that "refuse" to cooperate with
non-GPL modules. That actually reminds me of MS practices that I resent.
