Woah, that mail did raise a bit of hope in me: Searching for
"s3_late_bios" on Google led me to the site http://lambda.uta.edu/d600/
offering a patch adding that mode to Linux 2.6.9. Unfortunately the
result is just the same as with acpi_sleep=s3_bios: A "Stopping tasks"
message on an otherwise dead system.
