Interesting nugget here for anyone else with an older T series. With apm
and 2.4 kernels I had no problems with various distros finding the
mini-pci ethernet card (3Com 3c556b- 09N9774).

However when switching to a 2.6 kernel I lose my wired ethernet
connection unless I boot "acpi=off" and add apm to modules.conf (this is
all on Debian-based distros- Ubuntu & Libranet).

This is a pain as I really like some of the stuff that acpi does, but a
bit of Googling and it seems that the problem is well known. It's a
glitch with 2.6 kernels, acpi & this 3Com minipci card, and the general
consensus seems to be that you just boot "acpi=off". Well, I don't want
to lose all the fun ibm-acpi stuff, so I tracked down an Intel PRO/100
card- 06P3801 that replaces the 3Com one for $15.95 inc. shipping on eBay.

Works a treat with the e100 drivers- problem solved for under $20 :-)
