I would take this to LKML, don't assume that everyone is having the
problem. They _will_ help you. And if you can, please open a bug with
bugzilla. Unless that you identify that this is a problem with debian
only and then you should take it to debian-laptop@ or open a bug with
synaptics package manager @

I have debian Sid with T42 and things work, but you are not on a T42 so,
either those options...
