This is *probably* controlled by a BIOS setting, which you should be
able to change.  Sorry I'm not more specific, but I'm not about to
reboot my wife's machine (which is using APM right now) to check what
setting I messed with to control the screen blanking. :)

One other issue about the BIOS screen blanking:  On pretty much every
Thinkpad I've used with APM, the screen will blank even if you're
working *if* all you're doing is using a USB mouse.  The BIOS apparently
doesn't see that as "activity".  Using the trackpoint, a PS2 mouse, or
(of course) the keyboard prevents this behavior.
