Can't confirm that. Used the fglrx driver with kernel 2.6.12.3 and Xorg
and it worked just fine on the T43p.

BTW, there's a newer version (8.16.20) of the driver available on the
ATI website, but I guess it will take a couple of days until it gets
packaged for Debian on the referenced website.
