[ltp] S3 Suspend works, resuming half-wakes R50e w/gentoo

When I suspend my laptop, it only half wakes from the suspended state
when I hit Fn+F4. Here's what happens:

Running system as normal from runlevel 3 with xorg OR running in
runlevel 1 from vt1 (as root):

<screen powers down>
<suspend light on laptop comes on, fans/disks stop whiring>

Now the system is totally locked up, ctrl+alt+del does nothing, ctrl+alt
+f1 / ctrl+alt+f7 nothing. The only thing I can do is hold my power
button in till it turns off.

Right, now the details:

I have Option "DPMS" in my xorg.conf, but I've ruled out xorg as I've
tried outside of xorg and I get the same problem.
I have an intel extreme graphics 2 gfx chip:

that one (lspci) ;)

I use the following line to boot the kernel:
kernel /bzImage root=3D/dev/hda3 acpi_sleep=3Ds3_bios

I'm running the 2.6.12-gentoo-r6 kernel. This is quite recent.

dmesg boot output includes this:
ACPI: (supports S0 S3 S4 S5)

I've disabled compiled in/module USB/firewire support in the kernel just
to make sure it's nothing to do with that. Still the same problem. APM
is disabled in the bios (it's not supported on the r50e anyway).
