Sorry for writing that late, but I was offline for some time...

I own a T23 with S3 GPU running Mandriva 2005, but I never tried to
make the video-out work. (I haven't even ever checked that it doesn't.
:-D ) _Nevertheless_ I use the GeeXboX Linux LiveCD for playing DVDs
and displaying pictures on a TV screen with video-out. Works fine,
boots fast (<1 minute) and is lightweight (the ISO is <7MB). It's a
poor man's Media Center with text menus. Check it out on
www.geexbox.org (they have English and French language versions).
It's highly useful, if somewhat buggy - it happens to lock the DVD
drive, so there's nothing to do but shutdown and reboot.
