Nah, it doesn't do any better than the LCD panels you get in every
second laptop today.  Of course, I bought this laptop three and a half
years ago, but it isn't to boast. ;)

Besides, it wasn't all good.  It took /forever/ to get fonts looking
decent at the ~ 120 DPI horizontal that it gives. :)

My key requirement was freely available 2D acceleration, since I don't
really need much 3D on a laptop, and I don't want to fsck around with
closed source drivers to get my boring mostly-text desktop displayed.

For me, the ATI chip was just fine.  Also, it is fully open source,
which is better than almost anything since.[1]

     on-motherboard chips, but they aren't much better for 3D. ;)
