What kind of a medium was that (DVD-ROM, single/dual layer)?

The reason I think this is either hardware or driver related is that I
see the errors as soon as the DVD is mounted -- before libdvdread kicks
in.

BTW, my drive is revision 1.61 as well.  And I just tried with a kernel
based on 2.6.15-rc5-git7 and got the same errors.
