I think you could try either of the following:
1. Try partition tools under Windows like Symantec PartitionMagic (Former
product of PowerQuest), for they are likely to have better support to NTFS.
2. Install Windows on a FAT32 partition, then install Linux and make dual
boot. After everything is done, convert the FAT32 partition to NTFS format.
In fact, the recovery feature of a Thinkpad does restore the Windows in a
FAT32 partition, and that partition is converted to NTFS during the first
booting process. So, if you recovery your system, and boot from a Linux liv=
e
or WinPE CD-ROM, then rename the convert.exe so the system can't find it,
you will get a FAT32 Windows partition.
Also I guess what Dwniel Pittman said may be true, that you should try
rebuild your partition table, in case it's its fault.
