[ltp] IBM Thinkpad R52: Curious Sound of Harddisk during Shutdown

Hello,

in recently installed SuSE Linux 10.0 on an IBM Thinkpad R52 
and nearly everything went out of the box.

There is only one little "Problem" left :

When shutting down the system, an high-pitched sound - like harddrive is spinning up and suddenly 
power-supply is disconnected - appears before the Laptop turns off.

May this behaviour cause damage to the disk ? And how to avoid this ?
