In my country there is a saying that goes "World is beautiful since it's
varied" :)
I second Fionn analytical view even though mine was only a "feeling".
BTW I use powernowd exactly for the OPPOSITE reasons you state. Under AC
I would have the CPU go always full speed. It is only on batteries I
want frequency scaling to save some battery life. My experience is that
the battery life is very good and btw the CPU is almost always at 600MHz.
Now that I have swithced to KDE I cannot find a substitute for the
"applet" I had in gnome showing the CPU frequency.
