Hi-

Understand the frustration completely. I've had mixed luck with a
variety of kernels but I have to admit that trying 2.6.10 has been
decent for the thinkpad on acpi but on my dell inspiron on apm it was a
nightmare.

The power management firmware is on IBMs website but I believe I
installed it using XP at some point since it seemed easier given the
format I found the update in.

When I had the laptop at 2.6.9 or perhaps 8, it had the issues around
not being able to suspend correctly when a pcmcia networking card was in
the slot; but my usb ms laptop mouse always worked correctly after a
suspend.

If you decide to go with 2.6.10, I have had very good luck with a
variety of pcmcia cards and cardbus/hotplug type cards. I would give
2.6.10 a try.

From your description, you may be running into some of the same issues
I was finding with earlier kernels. At this point, the successes I have are:

-suspend with a lid close event and networking and usb comes up and
sound works.

-suspend with a Fn-F4 and everything works and the laptop comes back
with another Fn-F4 keypress

-suspend with a wpc54g card using linuxant drivers and the laptop will
not suspend unless I remove it as part of my script or part of the acpi
scripts

-suspend with a orinoco classic gold card, dual port usb 2.0, and a
group of other cards and all works.

-suspend with the earlier eepro100 and I had problems. Substitute the
e100 driver and it all works.

As is usually the case in all this...

YMMV
