[ltp] Disaster...my hack don't work no more...

I wound up updating myself out of a working sound system. I have been so
conditioned to "update early, update often" that I totally played myself.
The modprobe hack now gives me this result:
FATAL: Error inserting snd_cs4236
(/lib/modules/2.6.9-1-686/kernel/sound/isa/cs423x/snd-cs4236.ko): No such
device
FATAL: Error running install command for snd_cs4236
snd_cs4236.ko is indeed present in the place it's supposed to be.
I looked at some of my conf files and they are butt-ugly. It is as if ALSA
wants to try every blessed module during the startup process. There are
warnings all over the place to not edit a lot of those conf files by hand but
I looked at Thomas Hood's and Nagiya Tatsuya's conf files (on their
respective websites and they are definitely not as messy as mine are.
I might have to take another trip to Santa Barbara to get this sorted,
unfortunately....<sigh>.
If anyone here on this list is in the San Fernando Valley, California and
knows how to sort this out, please let me know.
Take care,
Michelle (who is still a Linux Padawan, alas...)
