You can actually use lsof to figure out what's having a lock on
your /dev entries. Usually you will have a /dev node associated with a
module, like for sound drivers and such. Unfortunately i don't remember
the right parameters for that and if you don't have a device node
associated i don't have a clue what you can do at all. (I always asked
myself why no one wrote a program that does this.)
