(At letast for most models) you don't have to open the machine to pull
the hdd out. Swapping HDDs is one of the feature-selling-points for
the T series (and perhaps other models as well.

I've had the IBM service guys tell me to remove unnecessary stuff -
before sending the machine in (the ultabay-dvd, battery, hdd qualify
for this)
