As a followup, my wife's X20 seems to work fine with APM suspend-to-ram
(Fn-F4 or lid close) and suspend-to-disk (Fn-F12) using kernel 2.6.9 as
provided in Fedora Core 3.

The only extra configuration I had to do was:

* Pass acpi=off to the kernel on booting
* Write a hibernation file using the tphdisk.c utility (for
suspend-to-disk)
* Unload the pcmcia service before suspend-to-ram (for suspend-to-disk
this was not an issue). This may be an issue only on Fedora Core, though.
Basically, I modified the apm scripts to do this for me. I'll put the
detaila on my web site (url below) when I have the time.

Other notes:
- APM suspend-to-disk basically always works, I've not had it fail yet.
- APM suspend-to-ram has failed on me once so far - when I suspended while
docked and on AC power and then resumed while off the dock and on
battery power. Machine locked once like that with the moon flashing.
- Fan doesn't appear to run while the machine is suspended (I may be
mininterpreting what you wrote above - do you mean while running or while
suspended?)
- Network light stays on during suspend if there's a network cable
connected. This might be normal. Can't the notebook be set to resume on
network activity?
