I got the same problem, and appending "acpi_sleep=s3_bios" didn't fix it.

The R50e only supports up to 1024x768 on the laptop display, sadly :(

"hdparm -i /dev/hdc" says I have a DW-225, FwRev=2.6A. It works fine here. If 
you have the same model it is probably a hardware error.
