I just loved this little machine.

Why is ACPI a must for you?

I was using APM with my T40p and had no problem with it at all. All
right, C3 is not used then and you cannot read out temperature values,
but the T40 surely does run long enough on battery, that the extra
minutes with ACPI C3 probably are not needed this critically?

I have no real issues with ACPI on a T42p, besides the fglrx driver not
being able to resume after suspend. Known issue. No idea, if and when
ATI is considering to fix this (we had this many times on the list
here).


However, you must know:

There is *hardly any* laptop, which has no ACPI issues under linux.
German c't magazine had some short Linux+ACPI report tables in their
latest laptop tests. No real success stories, just more or less annoying
problems.
