hello
i just recently bought a t43 and installed gentoo, which worked
smoothly after i figured out i had a sata drive. everything is going
well, except for some issues with both the harddrive and cd/dvd drive.
hdparm -i /dev/sda gives:
/dev/sda:
HDIO_GET_IDENTITY failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
while hdparm -i /dev/hdc gives:
/dev/hdc:
Model=HL-DT-STCD-RW/DVD DRIVE GCC-4242N, FwRev=0201, SerialNo=
Config={ Fixed Removeable DTR<=5Mbs DTR>10Mbs nonMagnetic }
RawCHS=0/0/0, TrkSize=0, SectSize=0, ECCbytes=0
BuffType=unknown, BuffSize=0kB, MaxMultSect=0
(maybe): CurCHS=0/0/0, CurSects=0, LBA=yes, LBAsects=0
IORDY=on/off, tPIO={min:120,w/IORDY:120}, tDMA={min:120,rec:120}
PIO modes: pio0 pio1 pio2 pio3 pio4
DMA modes: sdma0 sdma1 sdma2 mdma0 mdma1 mdma2
UDMA modes: udma0 udma1 *udma2
AdvancedPM=no
Drive conforms to: ATA/ATAPI-5 T13 1321D revision 3:
* signifies the current active mode
and hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc sez:
/dev/hdc:
setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
using_dma = 0 (off)
which seems to be a known issue, but i couldn't find a fix yet.
my kernel config on 2.6.11 gentoo sources seems ok concerning DMA, but
i'll attach both my config and dmesg.
very thankful for any suggestions.
best regards
paul

PCI: Using ACPI for IRQ routing
** PCI interrupts are no longer routed automatically. If this
** causes a device to stop working, it is probably because the
** driver failed to call pci_enable_device(). As a temporary
** workaround, the "pci=routeirq" argument restores the old
** behavior. If this argument makes the device work again,
** please email the output of "lspci" to bjorn.helgaas@hp.com
** so I can fix the driver.
