[ltp] T41 not entering BIOS

Greetings!
I have an IBM T41 running Gentoo and GNU Hurd for 1
1/2 years. Suddenly this evening, my system boots up,
shows the IBM Thinkpad image and then it doesn't start
with grub. I set a BIOS password when I bought it,
and, don't remember it now. But, usually when I press
the "Access IBM" button, it would go straight into IBM
BIOS.
Now it just shows a lock and a cursor blinks asking
for a password. I tried different combinations and it
prints "x" three times and locks the keyboard. I have
to hard boot with the power off button, and switch it
on again.
How long do IBM T-series laptops last? Is there
anything that I can do here? I am still looking out
for IBM Thinkpad service centers in India. My warranty
got over though.
I'd appreciate any help in this regard.
Thanks,
K Shakthi
