I have gave X a trial on my R51 but the only significant advantage I had was
a working OSD which I havenīt with xfree.
The "DynamicClocks" in xorg option makes only poor power savings. Therefore
I activate glx and dri only when needed. This is much more effective. The
starting of the xserver with xorg takes twice as much time as with xfree. As
far as I have a Radeon 7500M I get no better performance with xorg.

Sticking on xfree as long as it part of the actual Debian distribution makes
sense for me.
