	There was a utility out there years ago that worked great to 
do exactly this for Toshiba notebooks. It would let you turn on the 
fan at any arbitrary point and run it as long as you wanted (it wasn't 
thermal-controlled, just a simple on/off boolean).

	I've always wondered why that wasn't ported over to IBM 
hardware, because overheating Thinkpads can really brick them.. and I 
speak from experience here, having mine in the IBM "auto shop" 7 
times.
