the savage driver in xorg/mesa/drm cvs supports 3d accel and even
supports the dualhead so you can work across two monitors. you can

yes.  There's an option in the xorg mouse driver to use a mouse button
as a scroll wheel enable.  Check the xorg mouse man page.  Works quite
well.
