For someone interested in doing actual non-IT-professional work and
running Linux, probably a laptop that's a couple of years old. By that
time, the hardware issues have been worked out. My wife's X20 is a good
example of this. No, it isn't blazing fast, but suspend, resume, and the
video drivers work - as do the built-in ethernet, modem, and the (prism54)
wireless card I bought her for the home network. And due to the junk the
school IT department insists on installing on "their" laptops, the old
X20 with Fedora Core and Openoffice actully runs her presentations faster
then their fancy new P4 laptops equipped with what we call around here
"Windows XP Slo". :)
