I have successfully gotten to stage2 on my ThinkPad 750P. It's currently
working on the emerge system to get to stage3, but I thought I would post a
benchmark.
The machine has a 33MHz 486, 36MB RAM and a 12GB 4200RPM disk. I used
Slackware floppies to boot the system and get a PCMCIA NIC working.
Downloaded a stage1 tarball and went from there.
After a very rare power failure, the NIC barfing and my aggressive office
cleaning that cause another power failure, the "bootstrap.sh" process
completed in just about 11.5 days.
distcc was considered, but I have only one other Linux machine at the
moment, and it has a newer (hence incompatible) gcc package installed.
Any guesses as to how long emerge system will take? As a hint, "emerge
--pretend system" took about 75 minutes.
