For reference, my Hitachi drive (Model=HTS548040M9AT00 according to
hdparm) delivers about 35 MB/sec in hdparm on my Thinkpad X22 (800
MHz/640MB RAM). An older model IBM 5400 RPM drive (also 40GB) I have
around delivers about 23 MB/sec in the same machine. The older drive is
also a bit heavier, and a LOT noisier.
Regardless of any speed differences, if you do get a new drive, IBM's
prices seem a bit high. I'm sure the list has good suggestions on where
to get a nice fast hard drive that will work in a T-series laptop. :)
